Whats an Amigurumi

Amigurumi is a type of crocheted or knitted stuffed toy that originated in Japan. It is a combination of two Japanese words: “ami,” meaning crocheted or knitted, and “nuigurumi,” meaning stuffed doll.

Amigurumi is typically made in the shape of animals, people, or inanimate objects, and often have an exaggerated facial expression or body shape.

The art of amigurumi is believed to have started in the early 1900s, when Japanese artisans began crocheting dolls as decorations for festivals and celebrations. These dolls were usually made of simple cotton yarn and were either crocheted or knitted in the traditional round shape.

The popularity of amigurumi increased drastically in the late 1980s when the trend of cute, cartoon-like characters became popular in Japan.

This led to an increase in amigurumi patterns and designs, and the hobby of amigurumi began to spread worldwide. Today, amigurumi is a popular craft among children and adults alike, and can be seen in many different shapes and sizes.
